I am the new owner of this property. Why am I being billed for the entire year?
Property taxes are assessed against the property, not the person who owns the property. Taxes are not pro-rated by the taxing authority between new and previous owners. However, during a typical home loan closing, tax amounts are pro-rated between the buyer and seller. The closing documents from the loan closing should contain information about how the tax amounts were pro-rated.
