At Vanderbilt, we offer a variety of loans because we know that everyone’s financial situation is personal, and we want to cater to those situations as best we can. One of our loan options is the Home UpGrade Loan, also known as the HUG Loan. This loan is specifically geared toward financing upgrades for your home, so it’s not for a home purchase.
Curious to know more? Let’s look at some of the details of this loan option! The Home Upgrade Loan is designed for home upgrades that can help increase energy efficiency or for emergency repairs. Here are examples of eligible upgrades we can finance:
- HVAC (all varieties including geothermal)
- Insulation
- Generators
- Air sealing
- Ductwork
- Water heaters
- Metal roofs
- Appliances
- Smart thermostats
- Windows, etc.
This loan type is available in 21 states.*
You don’t have to be a previous Vanderbilt customer or have financed your home with us for a HUG loan, nor do you have to live in a manufactured home. This loan is for your energy upgrades and updates that improve your home and its safety, whether you have a manufactured, modular or site-built home.

How It Works and Applying
- Choose contractor
- Apply and get a credit decision
- Sign loan docs online
- Vanderbilt pays contractor directly after completion of work
This loan program is set up to help you as the customer work with the best contractor partners local to your area. We want you to be able to choose someone you trust, so you select the contractor. You can either choose a partner from our list by calling one of our representatives or you can ask your contractor to enroll with us and go from there. Typically, after all loan documents are signed, the work is completed, and we pay the contractor directly.
